Our Story
A belief that the ocean should be accessible to everyone
Our Story
Everyone Deserves Ocean Time
Ocean Awareness began with a simple belief:
What started as informal sessions on the Sligo coastline has grown into a structured approach to helping people connect with the ocean through learning, experience and community.
Why This Work Matters
Although the coastline is open to all, access to the ocean is not equal.
Many people face barriers such as:
- Lack of experience
- Fear of the water
- Cost of equipment
- Limited access to guidance
Ocean Awareness exists to lower these barriers and create safe, supportive pathways into the ocean.

Our Story
Learning Through the Ocean
The ocean is more than a place for activity — it is a powerful learning environment.
Participants develop:
- Confidence
- Resilience
- Awareness
- Connection with nature
Learning happens through doing, not just instruction.

The Ocean Awareness Approach
Our work is built around:
Activities → Programmes → Pathways
This allows participants to begin where they are and progress over time.
