Accessibility & Inclusion
A belief that the ocean should be accessible to everyone
Accessibility & Inclusion
Everyone Belongs in the Ocean
We believe the ocean should be accessible to everyone. Ocean Awareness programmes are designed to remove barriers so that people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities can experience the benefits of ocean environments.
Through adapted activities, supportive learning environments and inclusive programme design, we create opportunities for participants to connect with the ocean at their own pace.
Our goal is simple: The ocean is for everyone.
HOW WE SUPPORT INCLUSION
How We Support Inclusive Participation
Our programmes are designed to create supportive environments where participants feel safe, encouraged and able to progress at their own pace.
This may include:
- Small group sessions
- Adapted equipment
- Flexible learning approaches
- Supportive mentoring
- Accessible programme design
Our focus is always on creating positive experiences where participants can build confidence and enjoy the ocean.

THE DIGNITY OF RISK
The Dignity of Risk
Experiencing the ocean involves challenge, learning and personal growth.
Ocean Awareness programmes support participants in building confidence through carefully guided experiences that balance safety with the opportunity to explore and develop new skills.
By encouraging gradual progression, participants develop resilience, confidence and independence — both in and out of the water.
COLLABORATION
Working Together
Collaboration Is at the Heart of What We Do.
Ocean Awareness works with schools, youth organisations, community groups and international partners to expand access to ocean-based learning.
We collaborate with organisations including youth services, outdoor education providers, Leave No Trace, Léargas and a growing network of Erasmus+ and EU partners.
These partnerships allow us to:
- Share knowledge
- Develop new programmes
- Reach communities who may not otherwise have access
Together, we are building pathways into outdoor and ocean-based learning across Ireland and Europe.
RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT
Research & Development
Learning Through Experience.
Every Ocean Awareness programme contributes to ongoing reflection and learning.
Working with universities, NGOs and international partners, we explore how ocean environments support wellbeing, education and community development.
Our work contributes to areas including:
- Blue Mind and ocean wellbeing
- Outdoor experiential learning
- Inclusion and accessibility
- Youth development and mental health
By combining practical experience with research partnerships, we continue to develop and improve our programmes.
